Listen let the dead
bury the dead
for they are of no use
in building the kingdom of God

to stay behind at will
not desiring to follow Christ
their foolishness will kill

when Jesus says to follow Him
it also means to die
but dying to self is the key
or Jesus walks on by

a true disciple will follow
obeying every word
which Christ the Lord does teach to us
these truths in which we’ve heard

and when the hand is set to plow
a commitment begins
in pressing forward keeping on
to get the lost ones in

but looking back voids allegiance
priorities change the view
not fit for the kingdom of God
a person must be true

discipleship does cost a price
but one which must be paid
if the Lord’s work on earth be done
through followers He bade
